About our foodbank

Here is an introduction to our project.

Ballycastle Foodbank was established in 2014 by the 3 churches in the town who are known as Ballycastle Church Action, (BCA.) There was a recognition that food poverty was an issue within the area, including the Glens, and in response to this need BCA decided to invite a number of volunteers to provide a service to the local community. In 2016 the foodbank became affiliated with Trussell Trust (TT) and it operates within the TT guidelines and governance arrangements.

The Ballycastle Foodbank is managed by a small team of volunteers who respond to requests for help with food as the needs arise. Food is generously donated by the community.  2020/21 has been a particularly busy year for the foodbank with the pandemic impacting many in our community.
